How we measure who ChatGPT recommends
These rankings aren't opinions, votes, or paid placements. They are a record of what ChatGPT actually answered when we asked it — the same way a homeowner would — who to see.
Measured, never sold.
Money cannot buy a place on this list. No HVAC company paid to appear here, no HVAC company can pay to appear here, and advertising anywhere on this site will never change a measured ranking. If that ever stops being true, this site has no reason to exist.
The five steps, in plain language

We ask the questions real homeowners ask.
In each metro we asked ChatGPT for an HVAC company 4 different ways — everyday phrasings like "Who is the best HVAC company near me?", "My air conditioner stopped working — which company should I call?", and "Which company should I use to replace my air conditioner?". No trick prompts, no leading questions. 16 metros × 4 questions = 64 checks for this edition.

We record every company it names.
Each answer gets logged exactly as given. We then match every recommendation against the 1,026 U.S. companies in our dataset. When ChatGPT names a business with multiple locations, we credit it once — one winner per named business, so no company is double-counted.

Frequency sets the rank.
A company recommended in 4 of 4 checks ranks above one recommended in 2. One mention is never treated as a rank on its own — asking the same question several ways is what makes the result dependable. Ties are shown as ties.

We publish the top of the list — and only the top.
Each metro page shows the companies ChatGPT actually recommended, most-recommended first. We never publish a bottom list and never name who didn't make it. A company that isn't listed simply didn't come up in this edition's answers.

We re-run it quarterly.
The same benchmark, the same way, every quarter. Companies that improve their AI visibility can appear in the next edition — and the run date is printed on every page. This edition: July 2026.

What this is — and what it isn't
Being on this list means ChatGPT recommended that company when we asked, in this edition, in that metro. It is a measurement of AI visibility — not a judgment of the quality of anyone's work, and not a claim that unlisted HVAC companies are worse at what they do. AI answers also change over time, which is exactly why we re-measure quarterly and date every edition.

No. This list is measured, never sold. A company appears here only if ChatGPT actually recommended it when we asked. Money cannot buy a place on this list.
What does it mean if a company is NOT on this list?
It means that when we asked ChatGPT for an HVAC company in U.S., that company never came up. That says nothing about the quality of their work — only that homeowners who ask AI for a recommendation are being sent somewhere else. Most companies haven't shown up in AI answers yet, so the list is short.
How often is this updated?
